Charming Bookstores Around Lake Norman

There’s something special about spending a morning exploring local bookstores around Lake Norman, coffee in hand, shelves full of possibility, and the simple joy of discovering your next great read.

We recently visited a few of our favorite independent bookstores near Lake Norman, stopping in to browse, take in the atmosphere, and ask each shop the same question:

What are two books customers are loving right now and two you personally recommend?

Each stop offered something unique, but all shared the charm and sense of community that make local bookstores in the Lake Norman area so worth visiting.

Fred and June's, Mooresville NC

Located in downtown Mooresville, Fred & June’s Books has recently opened a stunning new space that feels like a true anchor to the area’s ongoing revitalization. Bright, thoughtfully designed, and highly curated, it’s quickly becoming one of the most inviting bookstores near Lake Norman

We met Mandy and CeCe, who shared what readers are reaching for right now.

Top requested books:
Theo of Golden by Allen Levi
Mayhem and the Mortal by Shanora Williams (a Charlotte-based author)

Staff recommendations:
Mandy: Deep Cuts by Holly Brickley, Doll Parts by Penny Zang
CeCe: Just Watch Me by Lior Torenberg, Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff

(I left with a signed copy of Mayhem and the Mortal.)  Be sure to check out Fred & June's new location in Denver NC as well!

Main Street Books, Davidson NC

Set in the heart of downtown Davidson, Main Street Books is one of the most charming independent bookstores in the Lake Norman area. The location alone makes it worth a visit, but it’s the combination of books, gifts, and community connection that keeps people coming back.

Inside, you’ll find everything from thoughtfully selected titles to fun extras like bookmarks, gifts, and book-themed accessories.

We spoke with Reagan, who shared both popular reads and meaningful recommendations.

Top requested books:
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
Theo of Golden by Allen Levi

Staff recommendations:
The New Economy by Gabrielle Calvocoressi
A collection of poems that recently inspired a moving in-store community event with the author, local readers and Davidson College students. Where they gathered to share poetry & maybe a few tears.

What You Are Looking For Is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama

(I left with a copy of James by Percival Everett after searching for it at several places recently & undoubtedly need to get Theo of Golden next!)

Walls of Books, Cornelius, NC

A favorite for many Lake Norman families, Walls of Books in Cornelius offers a cozy, relaxed shopping experience with both new and gently used books.

This Cornelius bookstore is especially fun to browse thanks to its ever-changing inventory and welcoming atmosphere.

We spoke with Emily, who shared what readers are currently loving.

Top requested books:
Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell (especially with the recent film release)
Books by Kristin Hannah

Staff recommendations:
Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell (book and movie both highly recommended)
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

What makes it unique:
A trade-in model that allows readers to return books for store credit making it easy to keep discovering new reads.
